1. (a) What is the use of RAM and ROM in a computer? Also, diffrentiate between PROM,EPROM and EEPROM.[7 Marks]
(b) Describe the role of parity bit in asynchronus transmission and SYN character in synchronus transmission. Explain the answer by using a suitable example for each.[6 Marks]
(c) What are the steps involved in recording a macro in MS-WORD? How one can run a recoded macro?
(d) What is the importance of Back up utility? Can a user take backup on any computer in its network? List the steps to install a Backup utility.[6 Marks]
(e) Write the steps involved in creating a presentation using power point to perform the following tasks: [6 marks]
(i) To include a picture and text on the same slide.
(ii)To include a table & text on the same slide.
(ii)Add the text as a hyperlink in an object.
2 (a) Differentiate between simplex, half-duplex and full duplex mode of transmission. Also, give an example for each. [5 marks]
(b) What is a scanner ? Can we use scanner as an ooutput device ? Briefly describe any two source data automation equipments : [5 marks]

(ii) OMR
(iii) OBR
3. (a) What is RISC ? Explain the important characteristics of RISC. [5 marks]
(b) What is the purpose and benefit of disk-defragmentation ? Do we have any tool to perform the task of disk defragmentation in windows, if yes then write the steps to perform the task. [5 marks]
4. (a) What are the main components of an operating system ? How an operating system provides convenient and efficient utilization of the computer hardwares ? [5 marks]
(b) What is meant by the term message encryption ? Briefly describe, how RSA algorithm perform message encryption ? [5 marks]
5. (a) Assume you need to send a letter of "new year wishes" to all of your friends and relatives; which feature of MS-WORD you will use to avoid writing multiple letters ? Write the steps for using this feature of MS-WORD. [5 marks]
(b) What is a difference between WAN & LAN ? What are the various devices which operates in WAN, explain their utility also ? [5 marks]
