1. Describe two major influences of scientific and technological developments during the last two decades on routine community life around you. Analyse the benefits and the problems that have resulted due to these developments. [10]

(b) Name the scientist who disproved the concept of spontaneous generation. Describe the experiment he used to support his concept. [5]

3. List two pollutants each for air, water and soil. What are their effects on our environment? Explain the methods used for their control. [10]

4. What is biotechnology? Describe the main techniques. List any two applications each in the fields of agriculture and medicine [10]

5. With the help of a neatly labelled diagram describe the “feed back” mechanism which checks the loss of water from kidneys in human body. [10]
