Q.1. (a). What are the advantages of DBMS over a traditional file system?
(b) What is ISAM? How are records stored in ISAM? Show this with diagrams.
(c) Define BCNF. How does it differ from 3NF? Explain them through an example.
(d) What is a knowledge-base system? Differentiate between a knowledge base system and a database system.
Q.2(a). Make an ER diagram of a warehouse. The warehouse has two type of items: low risk items and high risk items. The low risk items are issued on receipt of a simple challan but the high risk items are issued only if the challan is verified and authenticated by proper authorities. The issues are made only to a valid employee of the company. Make necessary assumptions.
(b) Briefly explain three advantages and three disadvantages of distributed database.
(c) Describe data fragmentation.
